Prepare for Severe Weather Now

If the forecast calls for more than an umbrella, you’ll be ready

Spring arrives this month, bringing with it seasonal changes and uncertain weather. Typically, the highest risk of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in Kentucky occurs from March to June. Farmers RECC is ready for the challenges that may accompany such weather events, and we encourage you to do the same.

Your Farmers RECC team plans and trains all year to respond and restore power when extreme, unpredictable weather causes power outages and downed power lines. This cycle of planning, preparation and training prepares the co-op for every weather situation.

We carefully monitor weather patterns to ensure our crews are ready to roll if our power grid is compromised by foul weather. Additionally, Farmers RECC routinely conducts preventative vegetation management to mitigate damage to power lines that can be caused by falling trees or limbs.

We also continuously harden and modernize our electricity distribution infrastructure. These investments help improve grid resiliency and minimize power disruptions for our member-owners.

Be ready

Despite our best efforts, severe storms can result in outages. We urge every Farmers RECC member to take a few minutes now to prepare for extreme weather. Being proactive can minimize stress and maximize safety. Some suggestions:

Assemble an emergency kit. You can find a checklist of basic supplies at our Outage Center at farmersrecc.com/outagecenter. After stocking up, be sure you have a way to get severe weather warnings, such as a smartphone app or a weather radio that will alert when severe weather threatens overnight.

Stay informed. Knowing how to communicate with Farmers RECC after a storm is important. There are several ways to report outages and downed power lines, as well as receive information about power restoration progress.
