Farmers RECC crews continue to make progress today. We currently have approximately 2,900 members without service, down from more than 6,000 at the height of the outage event. While this progress is encouraging, hazardous conditions—including ice, snow, fallen trees, and difficult terrain—continue to slow the restoration process and make the work especially challenging.
The other major concern today and tomorrow is the extreme cold temperatures entering our region. We do understand that it is brutally cold and the safety of our members and employees is our top priority.
Members who rely on oxygen or other medical equipment or members who do not have an alternate heat source are strongly encouraged to make alternative plans during extended outages, including utilizing your county's warming centers.
Members should be prepared for complete power restoration to take until at least Wednesday, barring any complications.
However, we expect to make good progress today with the addition of more than 30 mutual aid crew members from the following companies and cooperatives.
Clinton County Electric Cooperative
Coles-Moultrie Cooperative
Menard Electric Cooperative
Monroe County Electric Cooperative
Rural Electric Convenience Cooperative
Inter-County Energy
5 Star Electric
Townsend Tree Service
Glasgow Electric Plant Board
Our Outage Viewer shows real-time outage information, including crew assignments. Learn more at farmersrecc.com/outagecenter. Due to the complexity of this restoration and the number of crews involved, we’re unable to provide exact crew locations or future dispatch details.
We want to remind our members to stay away from downed power lines. Always assume that any line is energized. If you are using a generator, make sure it is running in a well-ventilated area. For more generator tips, visit our Outage Center at farmersrecc.com/outagecenter.
To allow our employees to focus solely on restoration efforts, our offices will be closed today, January 26 and Tuesday, January 27.
We are extremely grateful for your patience, understanding, and support as our crews work long hours in dangerous conditions to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. We will continue to provide updates as restoration efforts continue.
