The Kentucky Public Service Commission Approves Farmers RECC Base Rate Increase

The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) has approved Farmers RECC’s base rate increase request that was announced in January of this year. The approved increase is the first base rate increase sought by Farmers’ since 1986, said Bill Prather, president and CEO of Farmers RECC.

The PSC order is a settlement that permits Farmers Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation to raise its rates in order to increase its annual revenue by $3.69 million, or about 9.8%. Farmers RECC agreed to a reduced settlement amount of $350,000 as result of its efforts to reduce operating costs and the recent downturn in the economy. The typical monthly residential electric bill would rise by about $11.70.

In today’s order, the PSC said that the settlement is fair, just and reasonable. The new rates will take effect July 1, 2009.
